Please help us by ensuring any specimens you are requested to provide are given to us in the correct container, are labelled and accompanied by a request form. Failure to do so will mean the laboratory cannot process your specimen.
We will contact you with the result if there is a need for further treatment or management. Alternatively you may contact us for the result but the practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection and we will only release test results to the person whom they relate to unless that person has given prior permission for the release of this data or they are not capable of understanding the results. To help us if telephoning for results please avoid our busy times early morning and early afternoon.
Please allow a minimum of:
Blood tests - 2 days
Urine/stool samples - 3 days
X-rays - 14 days from the date taken
Other tests will vary but the minimum wait is 1 week
If you have been attending the hospital as an out-patient and your consultant has taken tests please be aware that these results will not automaticaly be sent to your GP. As you are under the care of a hospital consultant they will go to him/her for viewing - your GP will receive information from the consultant at a later date, this also applies to any investigations you might have when attending the A&E department.
